Moving on.. Lets get started.

This is the first try at how it was going to look. The rear quarter panels were still attached to the “X” frame. The frame can be seen in the lower right corner of this photo. The rear quarter panels were still attached to the frame.

When asked about this project "What was the hardest thing?" The answer is simple, trying to hold the hood and two fenders in alignment when they are not attached to anything. When you restore a car you can bolt each fender and the hood on separately. On this job, all three were sticking out into space.

I did build temporary supports, but they had to be constantly adjusted. Each fender’s vertical side had to be aligned front to back to maintain a flat-looking side panel. The top rear of the fender had to be adjusted to make the crown of the fender arch into the arch of the quarter panel. Each time this was moved the front of the fender’s nose would be moved up or down. The hood clarence with the fenders had to be maintained. Still, with all these problems overall it was well worth the trouble. Using the whole fender and hood provided the edge alignment of the two. The fenders also provided some support for the hood bolts.
